WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE

I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about what I do and hopefully take away some of the mystery about what therapy means.

I work mostly with adults who are experiencing a range of emotional and/or physical challenges that are interfering with their enjoyment of life. The therapies I use include cognitive-behavioural (CBT), interpersonal (IPT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) and virtual reality therapy (VRT).

WHY PEOPLE SEE ME

People come to see me when they feel depressed, anxious, or to better understand the reasons for their emotional reactions and behaviours. Some people come for help to cope with life events such as adjusting to serious injury or illness. Some people seek help with role transitions such as the transition to retirement or to civilian life.

Some people need treatment of mental illness, and others to gain deeper insight into unhelpful patterns that they have noticed in their life but can’t seem to change. Some people come for help with physical symptoms such as pain that may or may not have a medical cause. Some people want to address the current effects of past trauma with or without revisiting the traumatic event/s.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE

Sessions are usually 50 minutes long. Therapy can be as brief as 3 – 6 sessions or up to 20 sessions or even longer depending on the situation and your goals. The first time we meet, I will gather information about you and what has brought you to see me. It is also an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to see if you feel comfortable with me and would like for us to continue working together. Within the first 1-2 sessions I can tell you how many sessions people usually spend on working through situations that are in some way similar to yours – however, it is entirely up to you how long you choose to engage in therapy.
